Welcome to Hatfield House Tennis Club
The Club plays Real Tennis on the historic court at Hatfield House. The court was built by the 2nd Marquess of Salisbury in 1842 and for nearly 100 years play was restricted to family members and their guests. In 1955, the 5th Marquess gave permission for local players to found a private club, which in 1995 was converted to a Company Limited by Guarantee.
The Club is now thriving with over 250 members in various categories and engages two full time professionals. The court is in use on average for 10 hours a day throughout the year for both singles and doubles play. Its activities include friendly matches with other clubs, internal tournaments, club nights and social events. Apart from this the Club hosts 4 or 5 National Tournaments each year and has competed with distinction in various divisions of the National League. The Club has also been successful in the inter-club championships for the Field Trophy and Brodie Cup without actually winning either event, all of which goes to make Hatfield House Tennis Club one of the most vigorous Real Tennis Clubs in the country.
If you are interested in finding out more about the game, watching it, or giving it a try, come and talk to us. Visitors and potential new members are always very welcome.
